Question [FAQ] How do I upgrade from a previous version?

Q: How To Upgrade and Import Recipes From a Previous Version of Computer Cuisine Deluxe

The new process from version 6.1.1 is very easy.
Simply do the following:

1. Launch Computer Cuisine Deluxe 6.1.1 and select
Tools > "Restore/Upgrade Previous Database File (Including Photos)..."

2. You optionally have the choice here to delete all of the sample 1,001 recipes that are included with version 6.1.1. If you would like to delete all of the sample recipes, click YES. If not, click NO.

3. Locate your previous database file from the box.
NOTE: Be sure to select "FileMaker Pro Files" in the open box otherwise your database file may be dimmed and not selectable. Your previous database file will be located in the Computer Cuisine Deluxe 5.0 folder, for example.

Mac: This is located in your Applications folder.
Windows: This is likely located in your Program Files directory.

For example, previous database filenames to look for are:
Version 5.0: Computer Cuisine Data.ina
Version 6.1: Computer Cuisine Deluxe.ina

You database file will end in ".ina" (for "inaka") and it will contain all of your recipe information.
NOTE: You may need your 5.0 or 6.1 original account name/password before you can access your previous database.

That's it.

Once you select your previous database, Computer Cuisine Deluxe 6.1.1 will go through each and every recipe and import every piece of recipe data. This can be a long process based on the speed of your computer, the amount of recipes in your collection, and the amount of recipe photos you may have.

Please see the video above for more information, or post any questions here in the support forum.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
DUPLICATE RECIPES NOTE: If you kept the 1,001 recipes that came with your older version of Computer Cuisine Deluxe, then you may see that your new version contains these exact same recipes. To review and delete any recipes in your collection that are duplicates, simply select Find and List Duplicate Recipes... from the Tools menu. You will be given the option to delete all duplicates with one click.

IF YOU HAVE A CUSTOM DICTIONARY FILE: You will want to ensure that your custom dictionary file is linked to this new version of Computer Cuisine Deluxe. To do so, with the new version of Computer Cuisine Deluxe, select Edit > Spelling > Select Dictionaries to link your dictionary files to you new version.

FORMATTING TIP: After you have imported your recipes, you may see that there are certain font and formatting inconsistencies on some recipes. If you wish, now would be a good time to select Cleanup Text Formatting (all recipes) and/or Fix Font Attributes (All Recipes) from the Format menu.

This will remove extra spaces, add hard returns to the method, etc., for a cleaner look.

To upgrade from version 4.5, please do the following:
1. In Computer Cuisine Deluxe 4.5, select:
Tools > Backup All Recipes (Tab Separated Data Only)...

2. This places a file called "RecipesBackup.tab" in your Computer Cuisine Deluxe 4.5 folder.

3. OPTIONAL: If you would like the new version 6.1.1 to ONLY have your recipes from version 4.5, now would be the time to launch version 6.1.1 and select Recipes > Delete All Recipes...
(This deletes the 1,000 recipes from Computer Cuisine Deluxe 6.1.1)

4. Launch Computer Cuisine Deluxe 6.1.1 and select:
Tools > Import Recipes from Computer Cuisine Backup '.tab' File...
(When the open screen appears, make sure "Tab-Separated Text" is selected from the pull-down menu)

5. Your new Computer Cuisine Deluxe 6.1.1 will now have all your recipe data stored from your previous version.
NOTE: This will import recipe text data only. It will not import photos.

EDIT: New instructions/video now shown for version 6.1.1

I have added over 1,000 recipes with photos. It is not practical to copy and paste them one by one.

Quinn,

There's actually a way to export then import the recipe data with the photos automatically.

Just do the following:

1. Launch version 5.0, select Export raw Recipe Data
2. From the selection choices here, be sure to select FileMaker Pro as the file type. (call the file Backup.fp7 just to be safe)
3. Another box will pop up allowing you to select the data fields to export.
Where it says "Current Layout" on the top left, make sure to select "Current Table (Computer Cuisine Deluxe Data).
4. Then click Clear All.
5. Then click Move All.
6. Please wait as it will take much longer to generate your backup file this way as it is backing up every data entry field (including the photos found in the database.)
7. Quit version 5.0
8. Launch a fresh copy of Computer Cuisine Deluxe version 6.1 and delete all of the recipes (You can do this from Recipes > Delete All Recipes)
9. Select File > Import Recipes > File
10. Where it says "Show" in the pulldown menu, make sure it's set to FileMaker Pro Files, and select Backup.fp7.
11. A box will pop up matching all the entry field names from the old version to the new version. You should see each filed name on the left with an arrow to each field name on the right. (Some fields are dimmed because they are calculations, etc.)

The field names must match up to import correctly.
Be sure to select "Arrange By: Matching Names" so all fields match up.

12. Click Import.
13. A second box will pop up asking for confirmation of auto-entry of fields, and again click Import.

It will take much much longer to import this way, but it'll get done.
(1,000 recipes of data may take 5-10 minutes based on your computer, etc.)

This way, you're importing EVERYTHING, even calculation fields, etc., and some of which is unneeded. But it will import the recipe photos automatically.

The raw recipe data import/export is so quick I assumed most people would only need a handful of photos to convert. If I was mistaken, please use the steps above and I apologize for any confusion.

Sorry, and please confirm that this works for you.

Cheers.

Fantastic!

I'll make a video for this too as an option for users with extensive photo collections.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I have just upgraded to the new 6.1. I am attempting to upgrade from version 4. How do I bring in my data from this older version? I looked at the how to video but it shows only version 5 and the process does not match. Thank you for your time in helping me solve my problem

Hi Sherryr,

Exporting/backing up is the same process under version 4.0 or 4.5.
From version 4.x, just select the following menu:

Scripts > Backup All Recipes (Tab Separated Data Only)

This will create a file inside your Computer Cuisine Deluxe folder called RecipesBackup.tab which you can import directly into version 6.1. This option is for those 4.x users with a limited amount of recipe photos.

If you have extensive photos, in version 4.x select:

File > Export Records...
(Then for your file type, select "FileMaker Pro" and follow the same steps above for the "DETAILED UPGRADE" option after exporting your recipes/photos this way)

Again, the process is the same for 4.x users, you'll just have different menu options when you export your recipes/photos from the older version.

Please let me know how this worked for you.

It worked great. Thank you for your promote reply. Now I am entering lots of new recipes and will use the new iPad feature. When i go to my children for a visit I will have all of their favorite recipes with me.
Thank you again.

Perfect Sherryr!
Glad to hear it worked.

What's nice is that when you visit your children, if there's a recipe they want that they see on your iPad, you can just click the Email button to send the recipe to them via email without typing a thing.
